Check out our Shading Mediums

Yes…they are here at last. 10 brand new acrylic based shading mediums, enabling you to add subtle tones, weathering, highlighting details and textures on your wargaming miniatures and terrain.

Perfect for beginners and pro painters, Our washes are carefully formulated to allow you to get creative, add 1 or multiple layers, mix colours and create your own shades and tones. Or you can simply apply over a white or black primer, or add over our base and technical paints for quick and easy shading.

These are easy to use, and also tricky to spill. Yes, we’ve taken your views onboard as painters, as well as being fellow victims of N*** O** syndrome – we know that you’d rather splash out on something you can use, than lose what you splash everywhere by accident.

Using some decent quality bases from our stocks of Legend Games bases, you can easily see the possibilities.

Our shading mediums come in 30ml bottles, and are priced at a very reasonable £3.95.

These come in a variety of colours. All that is needed is a brush and your unlimited imagination.

Show us your works in progress!

So, the weekend is here again, and what better way to pass away the time than to plough through the pile of shame you have built up mercilessly over the last god-knows-how-long. In the time honoured tradition of show-and-tell, post a picture here of what you’re working on at the moment. You never know, someone else on this feed may have some handy tips or words of encouragement.

Show us what you got!

Here come the stormtroopers!

They’re mean and they’re ruthless. Have a look at our Eisenkern Stormtroopers. These are made from fine cast plastic, sitting at 28mm high.

These figures will need to be primed before you can bring them to life with our colours. Ideally, you will need a dark grey primer, such as the Expo Acrylic primer spray prior to painting.

These iron core troops sport light grey armour. The tone of the armour for these figures have been created through a combination of our own Base Black and Base White paints. This isn’t all, however. I have also used our Pastoral Green and Bloodbath paints to detail these figures. In particular, check out the camouflage on the officers hats.

Now no soldiers would be complete without a good set of weapons. To add to these tools of destruction I have opted to add Pewter (over our Base Black paint) and Silver Sword paints to be the base colours for their firearms. Another thing that makes these figures stand out are the bases.

To echo their combat worn environment, I have created textures by adding sand and charcoal to add depth with other elements to the base, embellishing these with Desert Storm, Base Black, Quagmire Brown, and finally Khaki Dream paint – all of which and more can be found in our shop.

Freebie Friday

It’s that time of week again. And we’ve got these Moonhopper tee shirts to give away free with the next twenty orders.

Just put your order through, and we’ll email you if you’re one of the lucky ones.

These tee shirts come in either royal blue or traffic cone orange. Impress your friends…confuse your enemies…leave the cat bemused. Alternatively, you can buy one from our merch shop if you’re not so lucky and you still want to look the proverbial bee’s knees.

Happy Friday folks!

Stargrave and Oathmark figures

We’re pleased to announce that we now stock Stargrave and Oathmark figures. Stargrave is a fantastic skirmish game, gaining popularity. Its premise is simple, players command a small crew looking for loot while avoiding trouble from the authorities. Oathmark figures are the opposite end of the fantasy realm – choose to fight with elves or dwarves, humans or goblins…we’ll be stocking more of these figures soon.

Free tape measure for the first lucky 50!

Yes, that’s right – we’re going to bung in a free battle tape measure for the first lucky 50 people that put an order in. It has a nice sturdy grip, our logo on it and can measure up to 5 metres. Not dissing anybody in particular, but they’re way better than the crap orange ones doing the rounds.

Pop into our shop and have a look around. We definitely have something that’ll float your boat. And remember: postage and packing is free for orders over £30 in the UK.

And keep an eye out for special offers over the next few weeks – we have some fantastic surprises and prizes coming up.

Pop in to see our range of paints and glazes

Sometimes you need a specific paint or glaze for a task, and often you find that there simply isn’t one. That’s why our Paint Pixie started mixing ours. We have developed our range so that they can be used in their own right, or with each other to create complimentary effects. From alien landscapes to snow crusted mountains and moonscapes, you can literally paint anything with our technical acrylics.

Why not take a look at our range of paints guide. This tells you what each paint does, and we’ll be highlighting the qualities, as well as giving hints and tips on using Moonhopper paints and glazes. We have lots more in the pipeline, so keep your ear to the ground.

PAINT JOBS: SASHENKA AND KIKI BULLDOZER

Our resident Paint Pixie has been busy this week on two additions to her increasing shelf of figures. One is the beautifully cast Sashenka, a Kurganovan Yaga Soul Weaver, and the other is the buxom and dangerous redhead that is Kiki Bulldozer, both from Raging Heroes. Both are already nearly finished, which is impressive as the PP has been rushed off her feet this week getting stuff onto shelves and mixing more oddball paint combos up. We may even sell some of these new additions shortly. Watch this space.

Kiki from the Jailbirds range is an astonishing figure, not least because of her sheer brazen violence, as seen by the poor chap she’s tied to a pole as a flag. Mildly unhinged, she’d happily fire a thousand rounds at you while putting on her lipstick. This is one babe you don’t want to mess with. A bio experiment survivor, she’s supposed to be a gentle giantess, but even so, you don’t want to mess with her – she was designed to be a weapon, born and bred to kill.

These figure have been painted using our own range of Moonhopper Paints, and we’re quite pleased with the results. Sashenka’s robe has been painted using our Fighter Blue paint, with just hints of Imperial Indigo. Anyone who knows anything about Russian folklore will know that the title Yaga comes from ‘Baba Yaga’, or Grandma Snake. She’s an old witch, very unpredictable and by use of cybernetic implants, her and the other Soul Weavers use their powers to bend the forces of nature.

Sashenka comes as a single kit, and is a steal at £11.99, while Kiki at the moment, comes as part of the Heroes Box: The Big Ones, priced at £42.99. We are buying in more Raging Heroes characters, and given the interest in Kiki, we may be getting into stock soon as a single packaged figure shortly.

So, who do you want to put down on the table in a fight? Sashenka or Kiki?

Only one way to find out. Tell us who and why!

Take a look at our Flock Pots

Need to bung grass and foliage in awkward places? Why not use one of our Flock Pots. A little goes a long way, and these pots will help you make anything from a hilltop battlefield, to an alien arid landscape. These are made with a safe hydrophilic compound, and the colours are mixed to produce the flock pots. Used in conjunction with our grasses and Terrain Pots, you can achieve some stunning effects and scenes.

We stock four types. Meadow Green is a lush verdant green, that you can sprinkle on hills and apply to give a grassy texture. Moss Acre is a harsher green, that can be applied sparingly to rocks and cliff edges, ruined buildings and walls as an aging medium.

Moss Acre: MG4055

Harsh Marsh is a brown, dull and nasty weed, and again is good for ruined terrain, decaying landscapes and flurrying over urban detritus. Finally, Wellsian Red is our tribute to HG Wells. Anyone who’s read The War of the Worlds is aware of the insidious Red Weed that crawls across the landscape once the invading Martians have established their hold on the Earth. This our homage to the floral menace, and can be used to cover rocks and other features.

Welcome to the world of Moonhopper…

Well, here we are. We made it – everything is in the shop now and we have lots of things cooking between here and Christmas. It’s been a tough couple of years for everybody, but while the world has been sleeping we have been busy. We officially started up last September, but have been taking our time to get things right, messed around with a few things to see how we could do them better, or if not better, cheaper and more affordable.

Here are quality modelling products and figures, at decent prices. Some are even our own brand. Our resident Paint Pixie, Charlie has spent the last few months getting our range of technical paints, glazes and terrain materials ready with her assistant Lurch in the backroom. We’re chuffed to bits with the results, and we hope you will be too. And we’ll be adding to our already growing range as we go along.

Please follow our blog, spend a bit of time on the site if you like – we stock all the staples, from tools and materials, to finecast resin figure brands, somewhat lesser known than the Games Workshop range which we don’t stock. Why? Well, it would be a Busman’s Holiday for us. We love their stuff, it’s partly why some of us got into wargaming and modelling in the first place. Our ranges are deliberately geared towards the heroic scale of figures, so we consider the GW pantheon to be the benchmark. And to that end we’re amiably running parallel to that, with products that both add to and equal GW in range, quality and value.

So in short, we like to offer alternatives to the Plastic Crack brigade. We have sourced some fantastic brands, the indy ranges that are of beautiful quality, can be played on the table and painted the same way in their own right, or even played and integrated into GW armies either as a kitbash or as a dispossessed army in its own right. That might be controversial in some circles, but hell, that’s the way we roll. All are welcome.

So, that’s who we are. We live, we’re on social media in the usual fun places (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram), and you can subscribe to our emails for details and updates of what we’re up to, what’s new and sometimes, the odd blog from us if we find or try something worth sharing. So enjoy, sit down, have a cuppa, browse…and welcome aboard!
